Plan Your Family Day Trip for a Wonderful Fun Adventure
For people visiting the Norris Lake area, we recommend a couple different day trips depending on your tastes and preferences, whenever you’re not on the lake fishing and playing from your cabin rental. For additional options, here’s a good article on the TN River Valley.
Picnics, river trips and visiting the local grocer can be part of a relaxing Norris Lake vacation. Scenic drives, family hikes and pretty good home cooked meals from the local restaurants are all along the way when you venture out from your cozy cabin rental. You might even discover the tastiest tomatoes in Tennessee, a goat farm and a lake named after the Cherokee. Enjoy!
YOUR FEET WON’T TOUCH THE GROUND FOR 2½ HOURS
CHOOSE YOUR ADVENTURE
Explore the Great Smoky Mountains in two unique and exciting ways. Nestled right across the street from the National Park, CLIMB Works offers you a chance to see the Smokies from the air on our top-rated zipline course or on two wheels with Gatlinburg’s only true mountain bike trail.
TOP OF THE WORLD FUN
9 WORLD-CLASS ZIPLINES
Once you take that first step onto our beautifully constructed tour, your feet won’t touch the ground for 2.5 hours as each zipline starts in one tree and ends in another. Without a house or road in sight, you’ll soar over large ravines, trees, streams and – with a little luck – wildlife.
3 SKY BRIDGES AND FUN ENDING
Take in the scenery while traversing over 3 sky bridges and finishing the course with our surprise ending. You’ll always be hooked in to the course so you only have to worry about having a great time.
ATV RIDE TO THE TOP
Start the tour off with an ATV ride (6 passenger) up the mountainside where you’ll gain 400 vertical feet over a half mile.
EL REGIS TRAIL
“El Regis” is an intermediate two-mile loop with the first 1/3 uphill, second 1/3 smooth flow trail, and last 1/3 downhill. The loop can be as easy or as technical as you want to make it.
Our goal here at CLIMB Works is to push you a little out of your comfort zone at your own pace. Because of the mountain terrain, our trail is considered an intermediate trail and can be intimidating for first-timers. If you’re up for the challenge, our bike experts will be there to give you pointers and help you to have an incredible first experience.

A totally unique — and totally fun! — tree-based adventure park, proudly located at Ijams Nature Center.
A tree-based adventure park? What’s that?
New to the United States, aerial adventure parks have been popular in Europe for a number of years. Adventure parks typically consist of a series of pole-based structures connected by different “challenge elements” and, sometimes, ziplines.
At Navitat, we’ve taken the very best components of the self-guided aerial adventure park model and built it in and among the trees! When you visit Navitat Knoxville, you’ll find something truly spectacular and unique — an adventure you’ll want to experience over and over again, and one you’ll rave about for years to come!
What to expect:
** Begin your adventure at the Navitat welcome desk inside the Ijams Visitor Center. After check-in, you’ll walk a short distance to Navitat’s Adventure Outpost. Here, our highly trained and friendly staff will outfit you with all the necessary equipment for your time in the trees.
** During your Safety Briefing, you’ll learn how to use your equipment and about the adventure park elements.
** Next, you’ll take a short walk in the woods to the Treehouse, our central platform from which all six adventure trails begin. Our Adventure Crew members will help you select a beginner or moderate trail to start with, and then you’re off – zipping, climbing, and conquering elements as you go!
** Each adventure trail consists of 10 to 12 challenge elements connecting you from tree to tree to tree… you’ll exit the course by zipline, a downward climb on a net, or an easy, controlled descent using equipment that lowers you to the ground.
** Once you finish an adventure trail, it’s back to the Treehouse to choose your next adventure or try the same trail again to become a real master – your choice!

RENT A CANOE OR SUP AT MEAD’S QUARRY
Our recreational partner, River Sports Outfitters, will kit you out to enjoy a paddle on Mead’s Quarry Lake. Try your hand in a canoe, kayak or SUP (stand up-paddle-board). This post-industrial natural area affords gorgeous views and during the summer, you may even catch a glimpse of freshwater jellyfish in the lake!
A nature playscape designed just for children to imagine, explore, and find whimsy and merriment; a special place for children to touch the earth, and in turn be transformed by it. The annual fairy house and gnome home competition is held here.
THE KEYHOLE AT HISTORIC ROSS MARBLE
Images will linger in your mind long after you leave this amazing stone structure located on the Ross Marble Quarry Loop. The views from the Rock Bridge above overlooking what local’s call God’s Chair are stunning. Ross Marble is now listed on the National Register for Historic Places for its part in the history of the nation’s Tennessee Marble industry.
Located barely a mile downstream from the birth of the Tennessee River the extensive boardwalk has long been a visitor favorite. Look for elegant Great Blue Herons and other shoreline birds from this beautiful vantage point.
A short hop from the Keyhole at Ross Marble, this short yet truly memorable trail takes you along the quarry gorge’s moss-covered boulders to a stunning view of sheer rock walls towering hundreds of feet above. An essential spot that evokes the vastness of the Big South Fork, yet is so close to downtown it defies the senses.
